It combines security technologies, processes and people to prevent attacks, detect threats and respond when an incident happens.
Routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi and the traffic between systems.
Websites, web apps, APIs and the code behind them.
Workloads, storage and identities on platforms such as AWS and Azure.
Laptops, servers, mobiles and IoT devices (endpoints).
Customer records, financial data and intellectual property.
User accounts, passwords, permissions and authentication.
These threat types are covered in Module 2 of the syllabus.
Only the right people can see it.
Encryption, access control and authentication keep data private.
Nobody can change it unnoticed.
Hashing, digital signatures and change logs protect accuracy.
It works when people need it.
Backups, redundancy and DDoS protection keep services running.
Definitions on this section are general industry knowledge. Course coverage is from the syllabus of Ascent Software Training Institute (Modules 1–3).
Almost every business now runs on applications, networks, cloud services and data, and each of these has to be secured and monitored. That creates work across several roles, from SOC monitoring and vulnerability assessment to incident response and cloud security, not just "hacking".
Payments, healthcare, government services and everyday work all run on connected systems that need protection.
Every new website, app and network change can introduce vulnerabilities that someone must find and fix.
Organisations hold customer and financial data and are expected to protect it under privacy and data-protection rules.
Moving to AWS, Azure and other platforms brings new identity, configuration and data-protection risks.
Security teams monitor alerts, investigate incidents and respond around the clock, which needs trained analysts.
Cyber security includes SOC, network security, application security, penetration testing, incident response, cloud security and governance.
These are national and global figures. Actual job opportunities depend on your skills, practical experience, location and the employer.
The course starts with cyber security fundamentals, so beginners can join. You will progress faster if you are comfortable using a computer and know basic networking ideas such as IP addresses and how the internet works. Prior programming is not required; Python and Bash basics are introduced along the learning path.

Labs follow the same order a real security assessment and investigation does. Every exercise runs in an isolated training environment on systems you are authorised to test.
Map what a target exposes, from domains to open services.
Identify live hosts, ports and running versions.
Find and rate weaknesses before attackers do.
Prove impact safely in a controlled lab to understand risk.
See how the same activity appears in logs and SIEM alerts.
Analyse logs and traffic to build a timeline of events.
Contain, fix, report and recommend improvements.
Ethics first: testing systems without written permission is illegal. The course covers cyber laws, ethical hacking standards and compliance (Module 9), and all offensive techniques are practised only in authorised lab environments.
The course ends with a capstone project: real-time security implementation, vulnerability assessment and mitigation, and a project presentation. The other cards are example learning projects showing the type of work practised in labs. Ask a career advisor about the projects in the current batch.
Training prepares you for entry-level roles. Most people start in monitoring, analysis or assessment and specialise with experience. Completing a course does not automatically qualify you for every role; employers look at your practical skills, projects and interview performance.

At Ascent Software Training Institute it covers security fundamentals, threats, network and application security, cryptography, ethical hacking and penetration testing, security tools including SIEM, incident response, cyber laws and cloud security, ending with a capstone project.
Yes, if you enjoy problem-solving and keep learning. Many people start in entry-level roles such as SOC Analyst or Cyber Security Analyst and specialise later. It takes regular hands-on practice; a certificate alone is not enough to get hired.
Students and fresh graduates from any degree, IT and non-IT professionals, system administrators, network engineers, working professionals and career switchers can join. Basic computer and networking knowledge helps you progress faster.
No prior programming is required to start. Basic scripting with Python and Bash is introduced along the learning path because it helps with automation and analysis later.
Networking basics are important because most attacks and defences involve networks. You do not need to be a network engineer, but understanding IP addresses, ports, TCP/IP, DNS and HTTP will help. The course covers network security in Module 4.

Cyber security is the whole field of protecting systems and data. Ethical hacking is one part of it: legally testing systems, with permission, to find weaknesses before attackers do.
A SOC (Security Operations Center) is the team that monitors an organisation's systems, detects threats and responds to incidents. A SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) platform, such as Splunk or Microsoft Sentinel, collects and correlates logs so SOC analysts can spot and investigate suspicious activity.
Penetration testing is an authorised, simulated attack on a system, network or application to find exploitable weaknesses and show their impact. It ends with a report explaining the findings and how to fix them.
Vulnerability assessment is the process of scanning and reviewing systems to identify known weaknesses, rating them by risk and recommending fixes. It finds problems; penetration testing goes further by safely proving whether they can be exploited.
Yes. Non-IT students and professionals can learn cyber security, starting with computer and networking basics. Expect to spend extra time practising fundamentals in the early weeks.
Common entry-level roles include SOC Analyst, Cyber Security Analyst, Vulnerability Assessment Analyst and Network Security Analyst. With practice and experience, people move into roles such as penetration tester, incident response analyst, cloud security associate or security consultant.
Yes. Training is 70% practical and includes hands-on projects and a capstone project covering real-time security implementation, vulnerability assessment and mitigation, and a project presentation.
